Chateau Castigno

Country of Origin: France, Languedoc
(AOC: Saint Chinian)

This selection of organic wines crafted by Flemish producers varies from sparkling and accessible styles to powerful and prestigious cuvees. Taste the Languedoc with its spices and garrigue and discover the best kept secret of France. These wines are crafted by a tight knit group of friends and family, which makes them perfect for sharing.

Castigno prides itself on its environmentally friendly processes, and winemaking is no different. Their grapes are inspected by Eccocert and they ensure no artificial fertilisers, toxic pesticides or herbicides are used throughout the Chateau grounds. They plough their soil regularly instead of fighting undesired weeds chemically. Plants are removed manually. A small flock of sheep are utilised as natural “ecological trimmers” to eat young shoots and fertilize the soil. They use Mouton d’Ouessant sheep, the smallest breed in Europe, to ensure the vines see no damage.

Sustainability is key at Chateau Castigno. They try to reduce our ecological footprint in all possible ways and prioritise sustainability in the production process.

Chateau Castigno

Merlot de Castigno
Merlot

Riesling

750ml/Bottle

Welcome to the Interloper. This wine proves that Merlot has the upper hand over Cabernet Sauvignon in the Languedoc-Roussillon area. A wonderfully compact nose, always closed, with ripe dark berries. Broad attack. Generous and juicy. Well balanced with fresh acidity. Highly promising. Styled in the typically Castigno way. Preferably, serve this wine in a large Bordeaux glass.

Chateau Castigno - Blanc
White Grenach, Roussanne

The Empress. What the Hermitage Blanc is to the Rhône, the Château Castigno Blanc is to the Roussillon. A real lady, an empress. This wine accompanies a meal perfectly. Golden colour in the glass. Beautifully complex and seducing nose. Refined wood. Well proportioned acids. And what a finish. Majestuous. Ideal for white meat and cheese. Preferably serve in a large Burgundy glass.

Chateau Castigno - Rouge
Grenach, Syrah, Carignan

Chateau Castigno - Rouge

750ml/Bottle

The Great Lord. Intensely dark, young colour. There’s blackcurrant, liquorice and tobacco in the nose and on the palate. Juicy. Strong colour extraction and powerful black fruit. There’s a strong influence from the wood and there are structured tannins. The wine is primarily sun-filled and concentrated and yet exceptionally elegant with a huge potential for aging. This wine deserves the biggest and most beautiful of Burgundy glasses.

Secret des dieux
Syrah, Carignan, Grenache, Mourvedre

Secret des dieux

The Well-known Secret. This wine holds no more secrets for the real winelover. Carignan, Grenache Noir blended around a core of Syrah. It has been justifiably declared as the appellation’s tenor. Dark colour. Beautifully concentrated nose bursting with ripe fruits, herbs and spices. On the palate there’s lots of sweet ripe fruit, beautifully integrated wood and a very long finish. In conclusion, a true representation of the Castigno style. Preferably, serve the wine in a large Burgundy glass.

Terra Casta

750ml/Bottle

The entertainer. The Terra Casta is an absolute entertainer for hosting a successful barbecue among friends. A dark colour and shimmering highlights. Expressive nose of delicate primary fruit. Grace des Anges - Blanc
Grenache Blanc, Roussanne, Clairette

Grace des Anges - Blanc

750ml/Bottle

Sensuality in a paradise rediscovered. This is an intriguingly dry white wine. The Grenache Blanc gives the wine strength, while the Roussanne provides the flavour and the Clairette the minerality. The colour is golden yellow. An expressive nose of aniseed and Mediterranean herbs and flowers, a delicious attack, well ripened fruits, a warm, long finish. Pour the wine into a wide Bordeaux glass.
