Lake Breeze

Country of Origin: Australia - Langhorne Creek (South Australia)
(Est. 1892)

Lake Breeze is one of Australia's most awarded boutique wineries.

History:
The Follett family vineyard was established in the 1880's by Arthur John Follett, the great grandfather of Greg Follett, the winemaker. The Follett family have been grape growers in Langhorne Creek for over 120 years and winemakers for 28 years and have rapidly built an enviable reputation for consistently producing outstanding wines.

Lake Breeze Wines:
The Lake Breeze winery lies on the banks of the Bremer River, surrounded by majestic river red gums. Since the first wine was made in 1987, Lake Breeze has developed a reputation for consistently producing concentrated red wines, with an abundance of fruit character and trademark soft tannins.

Lake Breeze selects only the best 30-40% of fruit from the older vines on the property, to create wines with amazing depth of flavour. These wines include the highly acclaimed 'Bernoota' [Shiraz/Cabernet], Cabernet Sauvignon, Arthur's Reserve and Winemaker's Selection Shiraz labels.

Flooding:
The old vines, which are dry-grown, rely on winter flooding of the Bremer River, which emanates from rainfall in the Mount Lofty Ranges between Mount Barker and Callington. The flooding is vital to carry the vines through the dry summer months as Langhorne Creek only receives an average 14" of rain.

Through a system of floodgates and baks, the water is diverted onto the vineyards, where it remains for one or two days, until the soil is saturated.

The alluvial silty loam soils allow for excellent water holding capacity therefore making full use of the winter floods, allowing the vine to carry through the summer months without supplementary water.

Lake Breeze

Moscato

Moscato

750ml/Bottle

Lake Breeze's 39 year old White Frontignac grapes were hand harvested to create this deliciously fruity and refreshing sparkling wine.

Originally from the North West of Italy, the Moscato style is thought to be the world’s original sweet sparkling wine.

It shows an uplifting grapey bouquet with elements of orange blossom and musk. The palate is light and has a delicate balance of grapey sweetness and natural acidity. The 'frizzante' creates a lively freshness and a clean finish to this delightful wine.

It is great as an aperitif, with light desserts or even with breakfast.

Reserve Chardonnay

Reserve Chardonnay

750ml/Bottle

The surprisingly cool, maritime conditions at Langhorne Creek allow for a slow even ripening where fresh natural acidity and
varietal fruit characters are retained.

The grapes for the Reserve Chardonnay were picked from the most outstanding block of chardonnay on the property and gently pressed prior to barrel fermentation and maturation in French oak.

Elements of wild yeast fermentation, extended time on yeast lees and partial malo-lactic fermentation have added complexity and enhanced the natural citrus and nectarine flavours in the wine.

An elegant wine with a long and textured finish.

Shiraz Cabernet (Bernoota)

Shiraz Cabernet (Bernoota)

750ml/Bottle

‘Bernoota’ was the original name given to the homestead on the Lake Breeze property - it is an Aboriginal name for ‘camp among the gum trees’.

The wine was fermented on skins in open static fermenters for 7-10 days, followed by maturation for 20 months in American and French oak barriques. The wine shows dark fruit characters of blackberry and plums, with a hint of choc mint and smoky oak aromas. The palate encompasses all of the trademark Langhorne Creek fruit sweetness and soft tannins.

Old Vine Grenache

Old Vine Grenache

750ml/Bottle

This classic wine was hand picked from their 1932 planting of Grenache, nurtured in a small open fermenter and aged for 10 months in two year old French barriques to create a rich, spicy wine with anise, raspberry and earthy characters.

Shiraz (Section 54)

Shiraz (Section 54)

This classic, full flavoured shiraz was created using a combination of old vine fruit and careful winemaking.

Maturation for 18 months in French oak has helped create a rich, velvety textured wine showing plums, dark berries and chocolate characters. A concentrated wine which can be enjoyed now or cellared.

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon

750ml/Bottle

Traditional open fermentation was employed followed by maturation in French oak barriques for 20 months, prior to bottling. The wine displays a lifted aromatics of black fruits and violets, along with some cedary oak nuances.

The concentrated palate has a lovely silky texture, showing chocolate and cassis flavours and a wonderfully long finish.

Arthur's Reserve

Arthur's Reserve

750ml/Bottle

This stylish wine is a tribute to Arthur Follett, who planted the first vines on the family property in the 1880’s.

A blend of 84% Cabernet, 8% Petit Verdot and 8% Malbec, this wine is truly handcrafted from the vineyard through to the finished product. The grapes were carefully selected from 40-50 year old vines from their family's vineyard on the famous Langhorne Creek flood plain.

Small open fermenters were used with maceration times varying from 8-12 days.

The wine was then aged in 100% French Oak for 21 months with only the best barrels of the vintage chosen for the final blend, which remained unfined and unfiltered.

The resultant wine shows classic blackcurrant aromas with violets, mint and savoury characters. The palate has great depth and silkiness and shows wonderful intensity and length of flavour.
